Happy New Year and welcome to all of you who have just signed up! Thanks! And welcome back to old friends!
For the past 18 months, I’ve been working as the Chief of Staff for a Police and Crime Commissioner in the United Kingdom, One of the reasons I took this role was because it afforded me the opportunity to work on all forms of violence against women and girls (known in policing terms as domestic abuse) from a law enforcement perspective. It gave me the opportunity to work on a countywide level on issues like FGM, honour based violence, early forced marriage and human trafficking, all issues that I’d previously worked on at the international level as a human rights advocate.
But now it’s time for new beginnings. Therefore, I have decided to start blogging again after a long hiatus. A new year means new beginnings so watch this space. New topics will include articles on extremism of all sorts, (both religious and secular), commentary on ending all forms of violence against women and girls (e.g. FGM, trafficking, honour based violence, domestic abuse, forced marriage), and reflections on various ethical dilemmas raised by current events in the news.
After resigning my post in November 2015, I’ve been exploring starting up a consultancy to help link charities with needed resources and expertise, to promote flourishing futures for those they serve. This will include providing services to charities such as strategic planning, business planning and project design and management and how to better source funding from the private sector. Similarly I will provide services for the private sector to help them better implement their Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) programs by providing advice on which charities to invest in, how to better invest their charity funds and how to ensure the charities they’re investing in are achieving measurable and desirable outcomes. Effectively, the company focus on developing more bridges and links between the private sector and charity sector in order to better achieve social change that results in flourishing for all.
Additional blog posts, will therefore include articles on CSR, leadership, social entrepreneurship, management, philanthropy, strategic planning, recruitment, human resources, networking, project development and management and different models and approaches to social change.
Once the new company is set up, I will set up a link to the website for the company. Meanwhile, off to write my first new post on flourishing versus extremism as it is a topic that has weighed heavily on me especially since the growth of ISIS (also known as Daesh, ISIL, and Islamic State) and the terrorist attacks this year in in Paris and Tunisia.
Looking forward to hearing from you all. I’m interested in genuine debate, so I promise that I will quickly moderate all comments and post them up.
Best wishes to you and your families for a flourishing 2016!
